What is it?
Hello, my name is Lauren Valdes and I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania. For my midterm in my advanced ceramics class in high school, I was challenged to try a new ceramic technique. I scoured the Internet, trying to find something neither I, nor my teacher has seen before. I was able to find a cool technique on YouTube, and this is my experience with it!
I never had thought that art would become such a huge part of my life. But now that it has, I could not see my life without it. When I throw, the world melts away, and it’s only me and the clay. It is comforting to know that a ball of clay can be made into anything that I want it to be. Throwing, sculpting, carving, altering, all of these things I can use to create. My art is my passion, it is my stress reliever, and it is dependable to me. When I think about my next project, I like to take my experiences from life and show them in my work. I feel that the use of ideas or images from my life experiences makes me the most creative. Every one of my pieces has a story behind it, and that is what I think is so unique about my work.
